You can trust the world’s leading provider of protection for doctors to help you settle into medical practice in Ireland with confidence.

We’re here to assist with the sort of problems doctors unfortunately face every day. If a mistake is made, someone complains about you or your employer, or the medical council or coroner needs to carry out an investigation, you need someone on your side. We are the experts who can support you every step of the way.

When we assist you, we reduce the stress or worry that a medicolegal challenge may present. We can help limit the impact on your career and reputation, and protect you from any financial implications. If you need professional legal advice or defence, it won’t cost you a cent outside your normal membership fees.

If you have any medicolegal questions or concerns after becoming a member, we want to hear from you. However big or small, we can help you get the answers you need. We have the largest global network of medicolegal experts of any medical defence organisation (MDO) ready to take your call, including fellow doctors who understand the challenges you face every day.

Supporting International Medical Graduates (IMGs)

We understand that doctors who have qualified overseas and move to Ireland to practise medicine have a different experience to doctors who qualified in Ireland and, as a result, their needs are different. Whether you are thinking about making a move to Ireland or you’re already here, we are committed to supporting you.

At Medical Protection, we provide information and support for our members and the wider IMG community, through our research, campaign activity, providing helpful information on our website, and through our products and services.

Dedicated IMG relationship manager

Speak to an IMG expert with your questions about Medical Protection membership and how to apply.

With Medical Protection, you can now get a two-month window of membership from the day you join before your subscription payment starts to be deducted by SEPA.We understand that doctors who have qualified overseas and move to Ireland to practise medicine have a different experience to doctors who qualified in Ireland, and as a result, their needs are different. For that reason, we have two options for the payment of your subscription: if you do not wish to pay for your subscriptions in one lump sum, you may pay your subscriptions by SEPA over 10 payment dates, with either:

Option 1. The first payment starting in month 1, and the tenth payment in month 10 (ie with a two-month ‘break’ at the end of your subscription year) or

Option 2. The first payment starting in month 3, and the tenth payment in month 12 (ie with a two-month ‘break’ at the start of your subscription year). This option is designed to help you financially at the start of your membership and career in Ireland.

To choose option 2, please email your dedicated Ireland Secondary Care Relationship Manager, Úna Buckley-Weir, quoting “Defer2Una” to [email protected].
