MPS comments on the HCPS’s indemnity guidance

In anticipation of the new statutory requirement to hold indemnity as a condition of registration for regulated healthcare professionals the HCPC produced guidance for their members on their obligations.

We welcomed the guidance as we think it is important to the success of the regulations that regulators promote awareness amongst their registrants. However, we express concern that the guidance talks principally of insurance and therefore does not mention medical defence organisations. We suggest that the guidance needs to better reflect the regulations so that the full range of options available to registrants is properly represented.

We also highlight the important role the HCPC can have in raising awareness amongst registrants of the different types of indemnity and insurance available so that they can make properly informed choices.
