MPS believes whistleblowers’ complaints should be taken more seriously

Dr Nick Clements, Head of Medical Services at the Medical Protection Society said, 'MPS strongly believes that whistleblowers’ complaints should be taken more seriously to help achieve better care for patients in the NHS.

Creating a culture of openness and learning, will not only put doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in a position to raise patient safety concerns with the confidence that they will be supported, but also put them in a position to drive continuous improvement in standards of care.

Doctors and other healthcare professionals have to know and understand the right process to follow. They also need to have confidence that their managers will support and enable them to fulfil their professional obligations – and they certainly can’t do that if they work in a culture of blame and fear.'
