The CQC is the regulator for health and social care in England. It monitors, inspects and regulates general practices to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety.

THE CQC's NEW FUNDAMENTAL STANDARDS

The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 (Part 3) introduces the new CQC fundamental standards. These new standards came into force for general practices on 1 April 2015 and replaced CQC’s Guidance about Compliance Essential standards of quality and safety and its 28 outcomes.

The revised fundamental standards incorporate the previous regulations and are not too dissimilar, but they do include updates on certain regulations, including:

  • the duty of candour
  • the fit and proper persons requirement for directors
  • the requirement to display performance assessments.
