Medical Protection has announced that, from 1 April 2025, membership benefits will be extended to Hong Kong members for any work they carry out in the Greater Bay area.
Members will now be offered medicolegal protection and claims indemnity for work carried out in Hong Kong and Macao, and the nine municipalities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province
They will not be charged any additional membership fees for the extended protection, and there are no limits on the number of days work that can be undertaken in the Greater Bay area.
Announcing the new policy, Chief Member Officer, Dr Rob Hendry said “This is an important development for members in Hong Kong and one which we know members, partners and industry leaders alike will welcome.
“We’ve been working tirelessly over the last six months to put systems and policies in place which will ensure we can deliver our world-class medicolegal advice, support and claims handing services to healthcare professionals if they face problems while caring for patients in the Greater Bay area. This includes going further than most insurance companies by offering this without restricting the number of working days it applies to.
“Medical Protection has a long-standing history of listening to members and adapting to their changing needs and I am proud of the commitments and progress we have made for members in Hong Kong.”
About the Great Bay area policy
The extension of benefits to the Greater Bay area (GBA) will apply to all new requests for assistance that relate to incidents or new matters occurring from 1 April 2025. Issues that arose before this date that relate to your practice in the Greater Bay Area are not included within the extension and you will not be able to request assistance with these.
Members carrying out practice within the GBA must work within the scope of their current membership both in terms of the type and volume of activity carried out.
While the number of days that can be worked in the Greater Bay area is unrestricted, members who pay less for a limited hours membership must limit their hours in total across the territories.
